For this renovation of a 1890s Chicago house, we partnered with Keefer Dunn Architects and 80s Deco Limited to interpret the long history and prepare for a longer future for the home.

An eclectic 1890s home in Chicago's Uptown neighborhood provided the backdrop for an exploration of time and authenticity in architectural preservation. Rather than identify a single period of historical reference or establish an ahistorical neutrality, the design of the Beacon House is a palimpsest of periods and styles.
Dwell magazine described the house as a “showcase of late-20th century architecture and design” with “deeply local evocations” and references to different architectural and decorative periods.
